So, you know, we certainly aren't trying to out-Kubrick Kubrick. Stephen King has his own opinions about the quality of adaptation, but it's impossible to argue that the Kubrick film isn't amazing, seminal, unique. Even throwing away the source material, the film has become a benchmark horror film.
